Hayward Unified School District offers four program options to
English Language Learners: Structured English Immersion,
Mainstream English, Bilingual Alternative, and Dual Language
Immersion. Each of these options is designed to ensure that
students acquire English-language proficiency and recoup any
academic deficits that may have developed in other areas of the
core curriculum. All options contain the following required
components:
Well-articulated, standards-based, differentiated English
Language Development (ELD) instruction, specifically designed for
English Language Learners.
Well-articulated, standards-based, differentiated instruction
in the core curriculum, with primary language support and/or
Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE).
Structured activities designed to develop multicultural
proficiency and positive self-esteem.
Regardless of program option provided, each ELL is expected to
make progress in English and in grade level academics.
