LIGIA GRUEL- Faith Ringgold

Es con mucho orgullo que comparto mis años de experiencia con ustedes, y que tomaron en cuenta al haberme elegido como su Parlamentaria. Comenzé como Secretaria del ELAC de Faith Ringgold por un año y luego como Presidenta del mismo comité. Como somos una escuela pequeña, tambien tuve la fortuna de haber servido como Representante al Concejo Escolar (SSC) y como Representante al DELAC por dos años consecutivos. Finalmente, he dedicado un total de 5 años como voluntaria en la escuela.

 Todos estos años de experiencia dentro del ELAC y DELAC y el voluntariado en la escuela de Faith RInggold han sido muy valiosos para mi persona.Gracias a estos comités he logrado un nivel de conocimiento más amplio en cuanto al sistema escolar en California y las leyes que aplican a nuestros aprendices de inglés. Todo este conocimiento me ha permitido poder abogar por otros padres con hijos aprendices de inglés a la vez impartiendo un mensaje de que se integren a las escuelas de sus hijos para estrechar el vínculo padre-estudiante-escuela.

Es mi firme convicción que un padre bien informado y orientado es vital para lograr el éxito académico de su hijo. Como Parlamentaria, mi enfoque será el de servir como enlace de apoyo para sus ELACs y continuar velando para que estos comités se desarrollen de acuerdo a normas estatales y distritales. Además, abogaré para fortalecer el lienzo entre los padres y sus escuelas.

It is with a great sense of pride that I bring with me years of experience, years those of you who elected me as your Parliamentarian took into account. I began as Secretary of Faith Ringgold’s ELAC for a year, then becoming its Chairperson. As many of you know that it is a small school, I also had the fortune to have served as ELAC Representative to the SSC and a full two-year term as a Representative to the DELAC.

All of these years of committee and volunteering experience have been extremely valuable to me. It is because of this that I have developed a heightened awareness of California;s public school system and the laws pertaining to our English Learners. This knowledge has also allowed me to advocate on behalf of other parents of English Learners all the while encouraging their participation and involvement in their children’s schools to strengthen the home-school connection.

It is my firm conviction that well informed and guided parents are vital in creating academically successful students. As Parliamentarian, my focus will be to play a liaison role between DELAC and your ELACs, and help ensure that these committees are established and developed in the manner stated by district policy and state law. All the while, I hope to strengthen the parent-school connection.
