DEISY GOMEZ- Bowman

Quiero presentarme formalmente ante ustedes como la Secretaria del Comité Consultivo Distrital sobre los Aprendices de Inglés (DELAC). Es un gran placer el haber obtenido este puesto, ya que fui Secretaria Interina del comité entre diciembre 2010 y septiembre 2011. Espero devolver la confianza que ustedes han depositado en mí ahora que dejo atrás oficialmente la etiqueta de  Ïnterina.”

Tengo 3 años de experiencia dentro del comité ELAC de la escuela Bowman, dos de ellos como Presidenta del comité. Gracias a estas experiencias formales, así como mis varios años de ofrecer mis servicios como voluntaria en Bowman me ha beneficiado y preparado para el desafio de ser parte del liderazgo de un comité distrital para padres.

Por lo tanto creo que el integrarme a la Mesa Directiva este año me motivará a aprender y ayudar a otros padres con más confianza y mejor informada. De hecho, la informacion que yo he obtenido y sigo obteniendo, me motiva a orientar a aquellos padres que no han tenido acceso a esta informacion.
Creo que no hay mejor regalo que se puede uno dar que el saber  cómo ayudar a nuestros hijos en como lograr sus sueños gracias al éxito que les brindamos al principio de su carrera aquí en Hayward.

I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself as the Secretary to the District English Learner’s Advisory Committee (DELAC). It is especially exciting as I was elected s Interim Secretary last year, a position I held from December 2010 to September 2011. I hope to return the trust you have placed in me now that I officially have shed the “Interim” label.

I come with 3 years of experience with Bowman’s ELAC, two of which I am serving as its Chairperson. I have benefitted greatly both from these formal experiences, as well as my years of volunteering at Bowman. They have prepared me well for the next challenge ahead of me as part of the leadership of a district level parent committee.

As such, I hope that the fact that I will be part of the DELAC Board will only motivate me to learn more and to be able to help other parents with a greater sense of confidence and with even more information at my disposal. In fact, the information I have been receiving and will continue to receive while in this position motivates me to guide parents who have never received it. I believe there is no greater gift one can receive than the knowledge of how to help our children see their dreams realized, thanks to the academic success we fostered at the start of their career here in Hayward.
